The January transfer window is nearly upon us and all eyes are on reigning champions Liverpool to see if Jurgen Klopp will add to his injury-hit squad.
With several players already nearing a return to action, it looks unlikely the Reds will bring in any fresh faces.
But Klopp has revealed he and his players have already got an inside joke going between them about a potential ‘new’ arrival next month.
Summer signing Thiago Alcantara has made just two appearances for his club since completing his move from Bayern Munich.
The Spaniard has been out of action with a knee injury, caused in the Merseyside derby back in October, and has suddenly found himself the butt of a light-hearted joke.
Speaking about Thiago’s impending return, Klopp said at his press conference on Friday: “He is eager (to get his Liverpool career up and running).
“We are already making jokes here that we should sign Thiago in January!”
Thiago stepped up his recovery this week as he was pictured training out on the grass for the first time since Richarlison’s X-rated tackle left him sidelined.
“We will not rush it but it’s nice to have him on the pitch,” Klopp added. “He’s not in team training yet, that’s the final step.

It’s been an extremely interesting start to the season for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
They got their title defence off to a shaky start as they edged out a seven-goal thriller against Leeds, before going on to conceded seven in a hammering by Aston Villa.
Virgil van Dijk’s season was ended by injury in the 2-2 draw at Everton, leaving the title favourites looking far less secure at the back – especially with Alisson’s injury worries too.
But there’s no slowing down in what is going to be a busy campaign – with Klopp ensuring his men continue at full pace as they bid for more title glory.
The easiest way to keep up with everything going on at Anfield? It’s by signing up.

“Will he be back in team training next week? He has to have a few tests before he can be back on the pitch (in full training).
“Millie [James Milner] the same. Shaq [Xherdan Shaqiri] the same.”
Should Liverpool decide to dip into the transfer market, a new centre-back is a priority.
Joel Matip’s latest injury forced Klopp to pair youngster Rhys Williams with natural midfielder Fabinho at the back in their top of the table clash against Tottenham on Wednesday.
Should Liverpool sign anyone in January? Have your say below.
Williams put in an impressive performance against the likes of Harry Kane and co., and former Reds legend John Barnes feels his old club should only splash the cash if they find a player worthwhile.
“If they can get better than what they have, yes [they should buy another centre-back],” Barnes told BonusCodeBets . “But if they can’t get better, there’s no point in buying for the sake of buying.
“The majority of centre-backs you would want are normally playing at top teams in the Champions League and may not be available.
“So, it’s not a question of looking to buy anybody, because he [Klopp] has faith in the youngsters that he’s played.”
