Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hinted ‘there might be something happening’ for the club in the transfer window this month.

The Reds have only signed central defender Ibrahima Konate thus far in what has been a quiet summer for the club.

Having finished last season in third place – following a run of victories to see out the season – there had been an expectation that the club would invest this summer.

The exit of midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum and the lack of squad depth in comparison to their top four rivals has led to some fans calling for more activity in the transfer market.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has hinted at further arrivals at Anfield

Klopp told reporters after Sunday’s friendly, in quotes carried by the Liverpool Echo : “I am very happy with the squad, but it doesn’t mean that we don’t look at the market.

“But as long as nothing happens, I am more than happy with the squad I have. I am more than happy with the players I have.

Who should Liverpool aim to sign this summer? Comment below

“We have so many things that you cannot sign. You cannot sign our counter-pressing, you cannot sign our atmosphere that we create in the stadium, you cannot sign Anfield, you cannot sign our anthem.

“You cannot sign a lot of things and that’s what we have to use. There are other approaches out there, obviously, and we have influence on that. Our situation is like it is.

“We have a big squad and there might be something happening until the end of the transfer window, but I cannot say anything about that at the moment.”

The club’s fans will have seen Chelsea ’s links to Romelu Lukaku, Manchester City signing Jack Grealish and Manchester United ’s acquisitions of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane.

Klopp went on to add that he was “not blind” to business being done by other clubs in the Premier League, but that the Reds had to focus on themselves.

He continued: “We are improving and it is not only doing so with our principles, it is improving our defending.

“We have to find a way to play proper football which gives us results. Football that gives us excitement, gives people excitement.

“That is what I am so happy about because you (the media) saw the game yourself and you think ‘wow, that’s really Liverpool how we know them’.

“And we want to be not only Liverpool how you know them but also Liverpool 21/22, building on the basis of the last few years.

“We have a new midfielder in our squad in Harvey Elliott and players who make a big step to fulfill their potential. They are on a good way and that is how it is.

“In this situation, I am completely fine. But we are not blind and it is like how I said, we see what other teams are doing but we don’t have to be better than them, we only have to be able to beat them and I think that is what we tried to do as often as we can.”
