Juventus vs Porto: Champions League preview

A lacklustre showing in the first leg in Portugal gives the visitors a 2-1 advantage, though the Old Lady have hope through Federico Chiesa’s away goal.

The last time Porto won away from home in the Champions League knockout stages was the year they won the competition, on 2002-03. It would be a good time to end that drought.

Date, time and venue

Borussia Dortmund vs Sevilla is scheduled for an 8pm GMT kick-off on Tuesday, March 9, 2021.

The match will be held behind closed doors at Juventus Stadium.

Team news

Cristiano Ronaldo was rested for the visit of Lazio on Saturday, while Leonardo Bonucci returned to sit alongside him on the bench – both getting a late run out – as Juan Cuadrado started after injury. But the good news ends there for Andrea Pirlo.

Matthijs de Ligt suffered an injury during the warm-up at Spezia and missed the game entirely, along with Arthur, Giorgio Chiellini and Paulo Dybala.

Both Chancel Mbemba and Mouhamed Mbaye are struggling with injuries, while Porto will assess Ivan Marcano ahead of kick-off.

Prediction: Juventus 1-0 Porto

The Old Lady were off-colour in the first leg, but I don’t expect that to be the case on Tuesday with Cristiano Ronaldo over his mini goal drought.

Porto have been steadfast at the back in the competition, meaning Federico Chiesa’s away goal in the first leg could prove vital.
