Jurgen Klopp previews Liverpool’s clash with Wolves

Liverpool once again reaffirmed their status as one of the Premier League‘s top title contenders this season as they swept fierce rivals Everton aside with ease in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday evening.

Continuing their imperious form, the Reds made it 18 successive matches in which they have scored two or more goals as they continued their charge to reclaim the Premier League crown.

Mohamed Salah’s double brought his tally to 19 goals in as many games this season, but with Liverpool set to lose the Egyptian forward and Senegalese star Sadio Mane to the African Cup of Nations in January, all eyes will be on potential replacements.

Reds fans have been boosted by the news that the club have reportedly set aside funds to spend on a forward who can play anywhere across the front three, but who exactly are Liverpool eyeing up?

Liverpool still dreaming of Diaz

Porto’s Luis Diaz could be the man to provide some forward cover for Liverpool in January

Who should Liverpool sign in January? Let us know in the comments below!

One name continuously being linked with the Reds is Porto’s versatile winger Luis Diaz.

The Colombian wideman has netted ten goals in 12 league appearances in Portugal’s Primeira Liga so far this season as well as bagging two more in the same Champions League group as Liverpool.

Having come up against Diaz twice in Europe this season and watched him at close quarters, the Reds are reportedly set to offer a figure in the region of £42.5million to Porto for his services.

According to Sport Witness, Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra claims that Liverpool currently head the queue for the 24-year-old, though their reported offer is some way short of Diaz’s rumoured £68m release clause.

It appears the Reds aren’t the only club keeping a close eye on the Porto man however, with Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Chelsea and Merseyside rivals Everton all reported to be interested, too.

Karim of the Kop?

Karim Benzema could depart Real Madrid next summer according to reports in Spain

While a January move looks highly unlikely, another future striking option for the Reds could well be Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.

With both Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe and Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland being heavily linked with moves to the Bernabeu next summer, reports in Spain claim Benzema could be open to ending his time in Madrid.

According to Catalan outlet El Nacional, the French striker is attracting interest from around Europe, with both Liverpool and PSG among the rumoured clubs keen on him.

Speculation in Spain suggests Reds manager Jurgen Klopp could look to use Benzema in a similar role to that of Roberto Firmino.

The 33-year-old striker, who ranked fourth at this week’s Ballon d’Or gala, has already hit 17 goals and registered eight assists in only 19 appearances so far this season.

Despite reports often linking the French forward to the Premier League throughout his career, a move to England has yet to materialise for the man who has hit 377 club career goals.

Ronald the Red?

Despite Liverpool’s transfer focus seemingly on bolstering their forward line, the Reds are reportedly discussing the possibility of some defensive reinforcement in the form of Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo, too.

According to El Nacional, the Uruguayan centre back ‘does not feel valued’ by the cash-strapped Catalan club as they continue to fail to meet his demands over improved terms on his current contract.

The Spanish outlet claim Liverpool are prepared to double Araujo’s wages in a bid to tempt him bring his time in Spain to an end in favour of a move to the Premier League.

The 22-year-old, who is also reportedly attracting interest from Chelsea, is out of contract in 2023 meaning Barcelona could well look to cash in on the defender before running the risk of losing the him on a free.
