Amir Khan and Kell Brook face off for the first time

Kell Brook and Amir Khan will face a six-figure fine if they weigh in over the 149lb limit for their hotly-anticipated showdown next year.

The British pair will finally face off in Manchester on February 19 after several failed attempts throughout their careers.

A catchweight of 149lbs has been agreed with the pair having fought most recently at the welterweight limit of 147lbs.

And Brook revealed the pair will face a hefty financial penalty for every pound they weigh over the agreed limit for their grudge duel.

“Six figures,” Brook replied when asked by reporters about the fine for breaking the agreed weight limit.

“Everyone knows in boxing that these weights are going to kill me but we are going to make it happen. Believe you me I have bent over backwards to make this fight happen.

“He is a drama queen and his ego is terrible. I am just a down-to-earth kid who wants to just be in the fight at more or less all costs. I know what we have had to do in the negotiations for this and I know that this fight is happening because of me.

“Me and him would always mention our names, from my side it was an easy one to make but from his side it was the worst person to deal with to make a fight.

“The pay structure is fair yes, but this was done five or six months ago. He kept coming back and moving the goalposts, always wanting a bit more like another pound in weight.”

Brook and Khan have failed to agree a deal for the fight in the past with both fighters making their own separate demands while their bitter feud rowed on.

Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn claimed earlier in the year that the fight negotiations were “dead” with the pairs’ teams unable to agree on several vital terms.

But a deal has finally been announced for the pair to square off in the ring promoted by BOXXER who will use their new platform with Sky Sports to broadcast on the Box Office channel as a pay-per-view.

And Khan claimed he asked for the extreme penalty to be put in place after agreeing to fight above the welterweight limit.

“The fight is at 149lbs, Kell Brook is not making 147 even though he fought before me but he still can’t make the weight,” Khan said. “So if I said no to it it would have been a reason for the fight not happening.

“I said yes to it as I would have got the blame for it saying that I don’t want to fight him.

“There has to be extreme financial penalties (making weight) because at the end of the day I am already giving two pounds away and I am only at 162 walking around today anyway so I will make the weight easily.

“I am happy to do that and I did say if he goes over the 149lb limit there is going to have to be penalties and that is not because I am being unfair. If I am going to give away weight it is only fair he will have to do the same.”
