Kepa is prepared to take a pay-cut to leave Chelsea

Chelsea, despite their summer spending spree, continue to be linked with several players as the January transfer window edges closer.

The Blues might feel that their squad is in good shape given their form before the international break, with Frank Lampard’s side sitting just three points off the top of the Premier League.

But there is always room for further improvement, and Chelsea are rarely unwilling to go the extra mile in the transfer market.

The club’s fringe players are also likely to be targeted by clubs in January, which will help free up some room on the wage bill.

Here are all the latest Chelsea transfer rumours.

Kepa’s ‘time up’ at Chelsea

Kepa Arrizabalaga will take a pay-cut in order to leave Chelsea, according to the Sun.

The report claims the goalkeeper is aware his “time is up” at Stamford Bridge following the summer arrival of Edouard Mendy.

Kepa was dropped by Chelsea boss Frank Lampard after a series of error-strewn performances, and could now seek an exit in January.

And the Spaniard is willing to accept a drop in his salary as he looks for regular first-team football ahead of next summer’s European Championship.

Jorginho agent makes transfer admission

Jorginho’s agent has admitted the Chelsea midfielder “could follow” Maurizio Sarri to his next club.

The Italian coach is out of a job following his dismissal as Juventus manager after just one season with the Serie A club.

But he has a close relationship with Jorginho, having coached the 28-year-old at both Napoli and Chelsea.

“Jorginho has a personal and professional bond with the coach that is very strong. We’re waiting to see where Sarri goes, and if it’s a big club in Italy, Jorginho could follow him,” Joao Santos told Calciomercato.

“He’s very happy with Frank Lampard, the new signings have entered well. Chelsea can do even better than last season.”

“Almost all the Italy players are in Serie A, as it’s an important league. But, his path led him to Chelsea. In Italy there are 5 important teams, he was Napoli which is one and then he went to London.”

“If Maurizio Sarri had remained, perhaps he’d have joined Juventus.”

Former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has revealed the Blues had the chance to sign Virgil van Dijk before his £75m move to Liverpool in January 2018.

Chelsea were one of several clubs interested in the Dutchman, who had emerged as a top Premier League defender at Southampton.

“I asked for two players and we were very, very close after we won the league,” Conte told the Telegraph.

“One player was Romelu Lukaku, the second player was Virgil van Dijk, and these two players were very, very close.

“We were in contact every day and I always said that with these two players we would improve my team by 30%.

“I think maybe we lost the momentum to bring Chelsea at the very top and then to stay for many years.”
