Khabib gives passionate speech after coaching cousin to Bellator world title win

Khabib Nurmagomedov believes fans will be talking about what he and his teammates achieved for years to come.

‘The Eagle’ retired with a perfect 29-0 record in 2020 after winning the UFC lightweight belt and defending it against Dustin Poirier, Conor McGregor and Justin Gaethje.

In his absence, Islam Makhachev, who is often referred to as his protégé, has become the king of 155lb fighters and topped the pound-for-pound UFC list.

Now a new star from their gym is a world champion with Bellator.

Khabib’s cousin, Usman Nurmagomedov, stretched his perfect record to 18-0 and defended his lightweight title at Bellator Champion Series 4 in California on Saturday night.

The 26-year-old put on a dominant display against Alexandr Shabliy to secure a unanimous decision win, courtesy of 50–45, 49–46, 49–46 scorecards from the cageside judges.

Khabib was in his corner and was seen hilariously putting one of his teammates in a chokehold as Usman worked to secure a win by submission.

Ultimately, they made do with a decision victory before the Nurmagomedov leader got on the mic and delivered a powerful speech about their gym.

“I think Usman is right now one of the best lightweights in the world,” Khabib said.

“I was before, now it’s our brother Islam [Makhachev], and Usman is next.

“You know, this is a dynasty. I think for many, many years people are gonna talk and they don’t even understand why.

“We work so hard. We believe in Allah, and we believe in ourselves.”

Khabib has recently breathed life into rumours about his impending comeback.

The 35-year-old has been training hard and even visited American Kickboxing Academy, which is the gym that help him, Daniel Cormier, Cain Velasquez, and Luke Rockhold win UFC belts.

Nurmagomedov was pictured with a black eye, which stunned fans as he barely took a punch during his legendary run in the sport of MMA.

Dana White hasn’t commented on Khabib ramping up his training.

The UFC CEO made desperate attempts to get him to stay four years ago and has made big offers to try to entice the Russian to return from retirement.

Based on Khabib’s interview at Bellator’s latest show, White should be trying everything he can to secure the signature of Usman as he’s the future of the Nurmagomedov dynasty.
