Krasnodar 0-4 Chelsea: Champions League action as it happened – LIVE!

Krasnodar vs Chelsea – LIVE!

The Blues returned to Champions League action this evening with a 3,662-mile round trip to southern Russia.

Frank Lampard‘s side began their Group E campaign with a goalless home draw against Sevilla last week, but put four on the board against Krasnodar.

Chelsea led at half-time thanks to Callum Hudson-Odoi’s goal despite an earlier Jorginho penalty miss, while Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic all struck late on to seal a 4-0 victory.

FULL-TIME | Krasnodar 0-4 Chelsea |

Scoreline flattering, but that is an excellent night’s work for Chelsea.

GOAL! | Krasnodar 0-4 Chelsea | Christian Pulisic 90′

This is cruel on the Russians but another clanger from the ‘keeper as Pulisic crashes straight through him.

89 mins: The scoreline rather flatters Chelsea but it’s knocked the stuffing out of this Krasnodar side and for pretty much the first time tonight it sounds like the stadium’s only a quarter full.

That’s a wonderful way for Ziyech to finish his first start for Chelsea. This was a game full of menace from the winger and you wonder what difference he could have made to the start of their season, if he’d been fit all along.
He’s going to give Lampard’s side a new dimension.

GOAL! | Krasnodar 0-3 Chelsea | Hakim Ziyech 80′

That’ll do it! A first Chelsea goal driven low through the bodies into the far corner and Frank Lampard can relax.

GOAL! | Krasnodar 0-2 Chelsea | Timo Werner (P) 76′

Jorginho had just gone off to Werner steps up and lashes home to probably wrap up the points.

75 mins: Penalty to Chelsea!

Harsh in the extreme. The ball is struck by substitute Christian Pulisic into Alyaksandr Martynovich from close range and the ball ricochets onto his arm. Penalty given.

This really has been a bright performance by Ziyech on his first start for Chelsea. He loves to run at players – and have a pop at goal.
He could be fun to watch this seaosn.

65 mins: Utkin lines up a free-kick in a cracking position after Kovacic’s foul but it’s a really poor effort straight into the wall and then he blazes miles wide on the volley as the ball ricochets back to him for good measure.

That’s another warning for Chelsea. Gazinskiy was the width of the crossbar from equalising. Mendy was beaten and grateful to see the ball come back off the woodwork.

This has been a tough night for Chelsea – and it’s certainly not job done yet.

57 mins: In that melee Kurt Zouma took a clattering and needs some treatment. Fikayo Tomori is out warming up but I think the Frenchman will be okay to carry on.

55 mins: Off the bar!

This time they don’t waste the corner and Yury Gazinsky scuffs an effort down into the pitch that bounces up and comes back off the woodwork.

52 mins: This corner’s even more unnecessary. Jorginho has the ball near the byline and slips over, knocking the ball out on his way down.

Fortunately, Krasnodar waste it because they’re caught offside playing it short.

50 mins: Not the most convincing start to the half from Chelsea, Azpilicueta conceding an unnecessary corner after not getting a shout from Mendy but it comes to nothing.

We are back underway…

That was Callum Hudson-Odoi’s first Champions League goal – not sure he can count on the opposition ‘keeper chucking it in for too many more.

The good news for Chelsea is that their goal duck is broken – even if Krasnodar keeper Safonov has to take the majority of credit (or blame) for Hudson-Odoi’s opener.

It hasn’t been convincing, but Chelsea lead and in Azpilicueta and Ziyech they have quality on the right that should create more chances in the second half.

HALF-TIME | Krasnodar 0-1 Chelsea

43 mins: He looks a bit all over the shop now, the ‘keeper, flapping at Azpilcueta’s cross and almost leaving Havertz an open goal though the flag might have saved him anyway.

GOAL! | Krasnodar 0-1 Chelsea | Callum Hudson-Odoi 37′

Oh it’s a howler. An absolute, 24-carat clanger, from Matvei Safonov.

Hudson-Odoi scuffs the tamest of efforts pretty much straight at the ‘keeper, who in falling to parry somehow manages to dive slightly past the ball and deflect it up and over his body into the net. Rubbish.
