Pep Guardiola on Lionel Messi speculation

Toni Kroos admitted he “would not be surprised” if Real Madrid signed French superstar Kylian Mbappe as Los Blancos are renowned for snapping up the world’s best talent.

The World Cup winner was asked about the possible arrival of Mbappe amid widespread speculation that suggests Lionel Messi is drawing closer to a sensational move to Paris Saint-Germain.

“I prefer to talk about signings that have already been completed,” he told German outlet Bild.

“But since Real [Madrid] always want the best, I would not be surprised”

Despite PSG insisting that their Mbappe is not for sale, Real Madrid are bracing themselves for a call from PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi over a possible move to sign the 22-year-old, according to reports from Marca.

Kylian Mbappe and Toni Kroos could finish the summer as Real Madrid teammates.

The Frenchman enjoyed yet another brilliant campaign last season, netting 27 times in 31 league appearances as the Parisian club reached the semi-finals of the Champions League and lifted the Coupe de France.

However, the lightning-quick forward is reportedly considering a move away from Paris, with Madrid the most likely landing spot.

Mbappe is already stalling over signing a new deal with PSG and, with his contract expiring next year, the Ligue 1 giants may be willing to cash in on a player who is hotly tipped as a future Ballon D’Or winner.

With Messi’s imminent arrival on the cards, the PSG wage budget is expected to skyrocket, potentially forcing Al-Khelaifi’s hand into letting one of their prized assets move to the Spanish capital.

However, PSG boss Mauricio Pochettino was keen to squash any rumours that Mbappe’s future lies away from the Parc Des Princes, stating: “I have not spoken with (Messi).”

“And (any move) would not mean that Kylian would leave.”

Kroos was also quizzed about Madrid potentially moving for Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland soon.

“Next to [Mbappe], Haaland is definitely the most interesting player on the market, and therefore [would] not exactly [be] cheap,” he added.

“We must not forget that we are in a period where there’s not an endless flow of money and, at the same time, we are completing our stadium [which] is not free either.”

The LaLiga side have been unusually quiet in the transfer market, with the capture of David Alaba from Bayern Munich on a free transfer their only arrival after a trophy-laden 11-year spell with the Bavarian club.

He will likely be replacing Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, who have departed Real for PSG and Manchester United respectively.

Speaking about Ramos, Kroos said: “It’s going to be a strange feeling. For me, he is the best defender of my time, an absolute leader,

“I don’t know what went wrong, but now we have to replace him all together.”
