Kudela could face police probe over alleged Glen Kamara racism after UK return

Czech defender Ondrej Kudela may face questioning from police over a racism storm with Glen Kamara after landing in Cardiff yesterday.

Kudela was a surprise inclusion in the Czech squad for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifier with Wales.

The Slavia Prague player is accused of having called Rangers’ star Kamara a “f***** monkey” in their Europa League win at Ibrox on March 18.

But the defender, 34, still joined up with his national team for their triple header before starting their win against Estonia and draw to Belgium.

Now he is in line to keep his place against Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium despite Kudela and his lawyers previously expressing reservations about travelling.

The star is also due in England next week when Slavia visit Arsenal in the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Kamara’s legal team, headed up by solicitor Aamer Anwar, claim Police Scotland would seek to interview Kudela about the alleged racial abuse should he return to the UK.

The centre-back boarded the Czech team plane on Monday separately from the rest of his team-mates as part of the extra measures taken.

Czech coach Jaroslav Silhavy has confirmed Kudela has travelled to the UK and could start against Wales

Czech coach Jaroslav Silhavy confirmed: “We are glad he is here with us because he is part of the starting line-up.

“It is quite uncomfortable what it is happening, especially for Ondra.

“But I don’t think it affected him and he is prepared for the match.

“Against Belgium, he showed that it did not affect him. He is ready.

“When someone asked me if we wanted Ondra to travel with us, I said: ‘definitely’.

“The next meeting was between the Czech FA and (Slavia president Jaroslav) Tvrdik.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for agreeing and Ondra is here with us. I’m glad.

“Of course we considered the wish of the players and player. The team is happy Ondra is here and they are ready for the match.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson confirmed on Monday: “We are investigating incidents of alleged racial abuse and a reported assault following the match between Rangers and Slavia Prague at Ibrox on Thursday, 18 March, 2021. Officers are liaising with both clubs and enquiries are continuing.”

The force is also probing a criminal complaint against Kamara which was filed by Slavia, who allege the Rangers player assaulted Kudela after the match.
