Kylian Mbappe being outperformed by former EFL star in crazy La Liga statistic

Kylian Mbappe has met his match since moving to La Liga with his rival none other than Oli McBurnie.

The Real Madrid star has endured a steady start to life at the Bernabeu having failed to score or assist in any of their three league matches so far.

In stark contrast, a familiar face to Premier League fans is already making quite an impression.

McBurnie completed a surprise switch to Las Palmas over the summer following the expiry of his contract with Sheffield United.

Having scored just 13 times in 96 Premier League games, few would have expected him to be mentioned in the same breath as Mbappe when it comes to La Liga signings.

However the Scotland international is already outperforming the French superstar with two assists in three games so far.

His latest assist came in Las Palmas’ 1-1 draw with Real Madrid on Thursday night, a result that left Carlo Ancelotti’s side with just one win from three league games.

McBurnie teed up Alberto Moleiro after five minutes of the game to give Las Palmas a shock early lead on home soil.

But Real Madrid avoided defeat when Vinicius Jr scored a penalty to earn a draw.

While McBurnie has spent the last five years yo-yo-ing between the Premier League and EFL with Sheffield United, Mbappe has proven himself as arguably the best player in the world.

Mbappe scored 256 goals and offered 108 assists in 308 games for Paris Saint-Germain to earn a lucrative free transfer to Real Madrid this summer.

As the jewel in the Spanish giants’ crown, the forward will be expected to score goals for fun as Real Madrid look to continue their dominance in Spain and the Champions League.

While Mbappe’s start to life in Madrid has been steady by his own ridiculously high standards, few will be too worried about what the future holds from him at the Bernabeu.

The 25-year-old will be no doubt be one of La Liga’s most influential forwards this year – the only question will be whether he can outperform his new arch-rival McBurnie as the season unfolds.

Mbappe will get another chance to score or assist on Sunday night when Real Madrid face Real Betis on home soil.

They’ll then face Real Sociedad after the international break, before facing their first Champions League clash of the season on the week of September 17.

While the fixtures haven’t been released, Mbappe and co. will face Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, FC Salzburg, Stuttgart, Liverpool, Atalanta, Lille and Brest in the Champions League League Phase.
