Kylian Mbappe linked with Real Madrid move

Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe is on the brink of completing a mega-money transfer to Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain.

Los Blancos tabled an improved offer of €170million (£146m) for Mbappe, 22, on Thursday and PSG are allegedly willing to accept it after softening their stance.

The French club’s sporting director, Leonardo, issued a strongly-worded warning to the Spanish giants after they failed to meet Mbappe’s price tag earlier this week with a €160million (£137m) offer.

But Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was unfazed and returned with an improved bid of £146million up front and a further €10million (£8.5m) in add-ons.

That’s according to Marca, who claim Mbappe could be announced as a Real Madrid player as early as Friday during an unveiling in the Spanish capital.

The report adds PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is furious with Santiago Bernabeu chiefs for the way they have conducted themselves throughout the transfer saga.

He is particularly aggrieved Mbappe will not be given a proper send-off, as it is believed he will immediately join up with the France squad after his presentation in the Spanish capital.

Leonardo accused Real Madrid of “illegal” approaches during an extensive interview regarding the first bid for Mbappe earlier this week.

But Los Blancos insist they have been above board throughout the process, during which Mbappe has been unwavering in his desire to make the move.

Perez has made it clear to the World Cup winner he will be the main man in the Real Madrid dressing room, which has seldom been the case at PSG.

Is Kylian Mbappe worth an initial £146million with just one year remaining on his contract at PSG? Have your say in the comments.

Mbappe has had to share superstar status with Neymar at Le Parc des Princes, while Lionel Messi’s arrival this summer bumped him down the pecking order.

Leonardo has been adamant that PSG must recoup the €180million (then £166m) they paid to sign Mbappe from Monaco if he were to leave this summer.

Although the player only has one year remaining on his deal, Real Madrid have conceded to the Brazilian chief’s demands.

Monaco will be entitled to €35million (£30m) once Mbappe completes his switch to La Liga due to a clause inserted in his contract.

The player joined PSG on an initial loan from Monaco in 2017 in a deal which was made permanent the following year.

Mbappe idolised Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo as a child and the Spanish club have long been the frontrunners for his signature, despite interest from Liverpool.

Recent reports in Spain claim Perez is prepared to build his team around Mbappe for the next five years as he looks to rekindle the glory days of old.
