Kylian Mbappe told Liverpool would be “best fit” amid PSG contract stand-off

Kylian Mbappe has been advised that a transfer to Liverpool would be the ‘best fit’ for him if he were to leave Paris Saint-Germain.

Former Arsenal and Chelsea midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes that a shock move to Anfield could be on the cards due to Mbappe’s contractual situation in the French capital.

The 22-year-old is out of contract at the Parc des Princes next summer and there has been a standoff between the player’s representatives and the club.

The striker has established himself as one of football’s elite talents and his availability is likely to put a series of top European clubs on high alert.

Kylian Mbappe could be on his way out of PSG – but it may not be until next summer

Former France international Petit believes that a move to the Premier League is a strong possibility for Mbappe due to the financial strength of England’s leading clubs compared to their European counterparts.

Petit is quoted as saying by Goal : “There are so few clubs in the world that can afford to pay his wages so it’s possible that if he did leave he would come to the Premier League.

“The best fit for him might be Liverpool.”

This summer, PSG have already signed Georginio Wijnaldum, Sergio Ramos and Achraf Hakimi while they are said to have agreed a deal for Italian international goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

Petit believes this may tempt Mbappe to commit his future to the French club: “Kylian Mbappe has got a year left on his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, and he still hasn’t signed a new deal. It appears he’s had some arguments with Leonardo, the sporting director of the club.

“But Mbappe has huge ambitions, he wants to reach so many targets in football.

“He wanted to get a signal from the club and PSG have now signed Sergio Ramos, Achraf Hakimi and they may sign Gianluigi Donnarumma.

“I can’t remember the last time they made so many good signings. These are very good players with leadership and talent, which are things PSG needed, so they answered the question from Mbappe.

“If Mbappe decides to wait and leave for free in a year’s time he’ll be under so much pressure, especially after he disappointed at the Euros.”

Former Monaco striker Mbappe is thought to be keen to one day lad the Ballon d’Or crown and Petit believes this could be fulfilled if he stays at the Ligue 1 club.

The former midfielder continued: “Kylian Mbappe could win the Ballon d’Or by staying at Paris Saint-Germain.

“They are not far away from winning the Champions League, and I’m pretty sure with the new players coming into the dressing room they have a strong team.

“Sooner or later, they’re going to win the Champions League, for sure.

Real Madrid and Barcelona don’t have the money anymore, so maybe the balance of power in Europe is switching away from Spain. Those clubs will not be as strong as they used to be.”
