Kylian Mbappe linked with Real Madrid move

Backed to be one of the best next generation footballers, Kylian Mbappe has built up quite a reputation for himself on the pitch with some incredible and mesmerising displays since bursting onto the scene as a 16-year-old in 2015.

A breakthrough campaign with Monaco in 2016-17 saw Mbappe introduce himself to the world and after scoring 26 goals in 44 games in all competitions, in which he helped his side to win the Ligue 1 title, the Frenchman bagged a dream move to Paris Saint-Germain.

At 18 years-old, Mbappe became the world’s most expensive teenager ever and potentially the second most expensive player in the world when he moved to the French capital for a reported €145million plus €35million in add-ons, signing a four-year contract once the initial season-long loan was up.

Since then, Mbappe has won 10 trophies with the club, including three successive Ligue 1 titles, and not to mention impressive performances on the international stage with France at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and more recently the 2021 UEFA Nations League title.

His status as a global superstar assured, the financial benefits have been close behind, and when Forbes released their list of highest earning footballers in 2021, Mbappe was ranked fourth after raking in $43 million (£32.6m) for this year alone.

It was also revealed that the 22-year-old has a staggering current net worth of $95m (£72m).

After signing that four-year contract with PSG at just 18-years old, Mbappe’s fortunes changed dramatically as he was due to receive $20m a year over three years – subsequently putting him in the top 10 highest paid footballers in the world in 2019.

And what is important to note is that of the $43m he has earned this year, $28m (£21m) was just from his salary alone.

PSG are known to have endless amounts of cash so Mbappe was always going to be on big money when signing for the club in 2017, yet he could go on to earn so much more if he agrees to a new contract at the end of his current one this year.

Should he sign a new deal, he would earn just as much, if not more than his team mate Neymar, while the addition of Lionel Messi to the club over the summer brought promise that Mbappe may be convinced to stay.

Nonetheless, it remains that Mbappe wishes to leave PSG, with Real Madrid in pole position to land his services in the forthcoming summer.

Given he will be available on a free transfer, it is certain his wages will increase dramatically as he looks set to one day become the highest paid footballer in the world.

On top of his salary with PSG, there are also performance bonuses and after being named as the Ligue 1 top goalscorer for the past three seasons, it can only be imagined how much extra money he has earned from his goalscoring exploits.

Off the pitch, Mbappe has also found financial success and the other $15m (£11.3m) of his annual earnings in 2021 came from endorsements.

The youngster is currently sponsored by Nike and signed a new long-term deal in 2017, while he is also an ambassador for Swiss luxury watchmakers Hublot in a deal reportedly worth €1 million per year.

The French superstar also features on the front covers of EA Sports’ FIFA Video game franchise; FIFA 21 and FIFA 22, where he became the youngest player to ever appear solely on the cover.

The exact numbers that Mbappe has made through the Nike and EA Sports deals is undisclosed but with these earnings contributing to a total of $15m a year, it’s safe to say it is a fair amount.

With 62.6m followers on Instagram and 6.9m followers on Twitter, as well as the fact that he is a world superstar, Mbappe will have no problem in finding other companies who will want to work with him throughout the rest of his career, with those total earnings set to go higher and higher.
