Adam Lallana has revealed that he was thrown out of Liverpool’s WhatsApp group just a day after he left the club to join Brighton.
The 32-year-old ended a six year spell at Anfield when he signed for the Seagulls on a free transfer in July.
The former England international clearly still holds the Reds close to his heart, however, and appeared as a pundit for BT Sport ahead of their Champions League game against FC Midtjylland on Tuesday.
When asked if it was strange to watch his former side preparing for a European match without being involved, Lallana replied: “Not really.
“It was the right time for me to leave and I found my new challenge really refreshing. I’ve gone from a player to a supporter now.”
He was then pressed on whether he was still involved in the team’s WhatsApp group, and replied while laughing: “Nah, you get chucked out. I’m still in a couple of groups.
“The admin chucked me out (the main squad one) the day after.”
Lallana had nothing but praise for his former boss Jurgen Klopp, who recently described him as “one of the best I’ve ever worked with.”
“It is mutual,” Lallana said in response to those words. “It was obviously a privilege to spend five years working under him. I learnt a lot. I’m obviously going to be a Liverpool fan moving forward.
“It is very intense. When you hear people say that they dedicate their life to the football club, that literally is the case for (for Klopp).
“Even just as little as starting times, you start in the afternoon, your whole morning will just be building up to training.
“There is a lot of sacrifice for playing for that football club but it is worth every moment. Especially when you’re lucky enough to win silverware like we did the last couple of years.”
