Lamine Yamal assists see Barcelona thrash rival as Kylian Mbappe stat emerges

Lamine Yamal continues to prove that he might be the heir to Lionel Messi’s throne with another stunning display for Barcelona.

The 17-year-old provided two assists, including a world-beating set-up for Robert Lewandowski in their 7-0 win over Real Valladolid.

Cutting in from the right flank, the Spain international crossed the halfway line before floating a glorious pass over the Valladolid defence and into the path of Lewandowski.

Such was the quality of the pass, Lewandowski was left with the comparatively simple task of slotting past the goalkeeper.

That strike was Barcelona‘s second of the afternoon following Raphinha‘s opener midway through the first half.

The Catalan giants then added a third shortly before half-time thanks to Jules Kounde, before Raphinha made it 4-0 midway through the second half.

Yamal then teed up Raphinha for his hat-trick after a wonderful dribble, from his own half, and pass to tee up the former Leeds man.

Barcelona weren’t finished though, with Dani Olmo and Ferran Torres rounding off a 7-0 win.

Victory for Barcelona means that they remain top of La Liga with four wins from four games.

It means that they are already seven points clear of Real Madrid who have a game in hand.

That is due to Los Blancos winning just one of their opening three matches in the league with Kylian Mbappe yet to register a goal or assist.

It also heaps misery on Vallodolid’s majority shareholder, Ronaldo, who is a Real Madrid legend after his five years at the Bernabeu, but also had a spell with Barcelona.

Yamal’s contribution to Barcelona’s success builds on his reputation as arguably the best young player in world football right now.

So far this term the winger has scored one goal and provided four assists in four LaLiga fixtures for Barcelona – a stark contrast to Mbappe.

It follows Spain’s triumphant Euro 2024 campaign in which Yamal scored one goal and provided four assists to help his country to glory.
