Lewis Hamilton wins Portuguese Grand Prix ahead of F1 title rival Max Verstappen

Lewis Hamilton claimed his second win of the F1 season as he took the chequered flag in Portugal.

The Mercedes driver, who started behind Valtteri Bottas on the grid, was forced to overtake his team-mate and Max Verstappen on the Algarve.

Bottas took charge early on as Hamilton fell behind his title rival when the Red Bull driver took second.

Hamilton quickly reversed that move and jumped back into second before chasing down his Mercedes colleague to take the lead.

After the round of pit stops Hamilton enjoyed a comfortable lead whilst Silver Arrows chief Toto Wolff was on the radio calling on Bottas to chase down Verstappen, who had got himself ahead of the Finn.

In the end the Red Bull driver was able to come home in second to stay in close proximity to Hamilton in the standings. The Brit bouncing back impressively from the last race at Imola.

Sergio Perez came home in fourth as the two leading teams dominated.

Lando Norris finished in fifth as his impressive season continues with Charles Leclerc finishing behind him in sixth.

The two Alpines secured top 10 finishes with Esteban Ocon edging veteran Fernando Alonso.

Daniel Ricciardo and Pierre Gasly rounded out the point positions.
