Lionel Messi ‘convinced’ to follow Cesc Fabregas to America with MLS transfer

Lionel Messi has been convinced to join forces with Cesc Fabregas by making a move to Major League Soccer, according to reports.

The duo spent three seasons alongside each other at Barcelona between 2011 and 2014 and remain good friends.

Messi’s wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, and Fabregas’ spouse, Daniella Semaan, are especially close and are believed to have come up with a plan to move their families to America together.

Argentine superstar Messi is out of contract at Barcelona this summer and is yet to publicly make a decision on his future.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal and Chelsea playmaker Fabregas has a deal with Monaco which runs until 2022.

Messi and Fabregas will reportedly rekindle their partnership in America

It remains to be seen when the two players will make the switch to the MLS but Spanish journalist Guillem Balague claims it is only a matter of time before their wives’ plan comes to fruition.

He told CBS Sports : “At some point, I am sure people will try to convince them to come to the MLS.

“And – I can’t remember if I told you this story already – basically Cesc Fabregas wants to go to the MLS.

“Cesc Fabregas’ wife and Messi’s wife are very good friends and they both, the wives, have convinced Cesc and Messi to go to America together.

“So when that will happen, we don’t know yet, because of course Cesc is still at Monaco. But it is something that is in the back of the minds of both players.”

Messi’s future is as uncertain as ever after Barcelona crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

The six-time Ballon d’Or tried to leave Camp Nou last summer but Barca boss Ronald Koeman has not given up trying to convince him to stay.

“Leo has seen for quite some time that the team is improving thanks to all the changes we’ve made,” said Koeman after the match.

“Particularly, we have young players of great quality. We’ve got a great future ahead. Leo can’t have any doubts about what the future holds for this team.”
