Lionel Messi appeared to shock Elche goalkeeper Edgar Badia by asking for his shirt after Barcelona’s 3-0 win over the La Liga side on Wednesday.
Barca got a much-needed victory at the Nou Camp courtesy of a Messi brace and a Jordi Alba volley.
And the result means they are still not completely out of the title race, and now sit just five points behind league leaders Atletico Madrid.
At the full-time whistle a number of players exchanged shirts, and Badia made his way towards Messi to ask for the icon’s jersey.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner agreed to the request… and then asked Badia’s for his in return.
This appeared to surprise the star-struck Spanish shot-stopper, who laughed and joked with Messi after the swap was complete.
The win was Barcelona’s first in two matches after their 4-1 thumping by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last week was followed up by a disappointing La Liga draw against Cadiz.
They next face two games against high-flying Sevilla, first in the league and then in the second leg of their Copa del Rey semi-final.
Meanwhile a recent study has found that Messi has pocketed more cash than any other football player in history.
Vanquis have published their Ultimate Sports Rich List, and have found that the Barca captain collects the staggering sum of just over £68.3million per year, with a significant gap over those chasing behind.
Messi rakes in £16m more than closest superstar, Neymar, who boosted his earnings following his world record transfer to PSG back in 2018.
His future is still very much up in the air, however, and it remains to be seen where he ends up when his current contract expires at the end of the season.
PSG and Manchester City are still thought to be the two most realistic options for Messi, and he is expected to make a decision in the coming months.
