Transfer update: Liverpool plan more exits plus van de Beek news

Liverpool warmed up for their Premier League opener with a pre-season win over Osasuna but they are set to begin the campaign with few new faces.

Ibrahima Konate, who made his first Anfield appearance on Monday night, is Jurgen Klopp’s only marquee arrival thus far.

He was signed from RB Leipzig for over £30m, but no additions have been made in midfield or attack.

Gini Wijnaldum left for PSG whilst the likes of Xherdan Shaqiri and Divock Origi could yet depart in search of more minutes.

Despite that Klopp has not bought anyone in despite being linked with the likes of Kylian Mbappe.

These are the latest rumours concerning the Reds.

Madrid likely for Mbappe

PSG are close to completing a deal for Lionel Messi, which may force them into selling the Frenchman.

Liverpool have been linked with the forward, who is into the final year of his contract in Paris, but Los Blancos are also keen.

The former Monaco man has previously talked up Jurgen Klopp and his side.

And whilst reports have suggested that Mbappe is unwilling to put pen to paper on fresh terms meaning PSG may have to cash in this summer, but the Reds could miss out and Madrid look set to make an approach.

Reds lead Sanches race

Liverpool are the leading the race to sign Renato Sanches from Lille this summer.

Barcelona are also keen on the Portuguese midfielder, who enjoyed a strong Euro 2020, but the Reds are more likely to secure the player’s signature, reports Mundo Deportivo.

The report claims Lille are looking to cash in on Sanches before this month’s deadline, with a €40m valuation being touted.

Mundo Deportivo also state that it “seems almost impossible” that the Spanish side could sign the Lille star.

The Catalans have had to deal in free transfer this summer and their failure to keep Messi highlights their financial issues.

Woodburn handed future boost

Liverpool No 2 Pep Lijnders insists Ben Woodburn does have a future at Anfield.

The Reds midfielder featured in their pre-season win over Osasuna, but has found opportunities hard to come by under Jurgen Klopp.

But Lijnders hailed his efforts and talked up his qualities.

“Again, what a performance from Ben,” he said after Monday’s final warm-up game.

“The energy he brings to the team is exactly what we stand for. Football smart, a good mover and he unbalances the opposition constantly with the ball but also with his movement off it.

“I’m so happy for him. Like many of the team it didn’t come easy for him, but he has an Anfield future.”
