Liverpool fans react to Van Dijk’s first social media post since surgery

Virgil van Dijk has taken to Instagram for the first time since undergoing knee surgery but not in the way many Liverpool fans would have expected.

The Dutch defender has uploaded a snap of himself with a brand new PS5 with the smiling sun glasses emoji.

The console, which was released just a few weeks ago, appears to be in a special glass case.

It’s the defender’s first post since October 18, when he announced he would be undergoing surgery on his knee.

Van Dijk sustained the nasty injury the day before, in the Merseyside Derby, after Everton shot-stopper Jordan Pickford crashed into his rival.

The severity of the issue soon became clear when it was confirmed the 29-year-old damaged his anterior cruciate ligaments.

With a long recovery ahead of him, Van Dijk will now be out for the most of the season. But at least his new PS5 will keep him busy and Liverpool fans have been busy reacting to the post.

“Happy to see you again big man,” replied one supporter.

“Get well soon big man,” said another.

“Come back stronger,” posted a fan.

“We miss you, big man,” a separate fan posted.”

“There’s what everyone wants…and he’s holding a PS5.” quipped another.

“You’re alive,” posted one fan clearly missing the dender.

While another fan simply posted: “I miss you.”

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp provided an update of his own recently. And while he gave a rather concerning description of the defender’s knee, the German reported that Van Dijk’s recovery is right on track.

“Yes, of course we are in contact. Considering the circumstances, he’s doing really well.

“His knee doesn’t look good, to be honest; it doesn’t look like a knee should look – but it looks good for a knee with that surgery and the time he had since the surgery.

“So, yes, of course we are in contact and he’s doing well, that’s true.”
