Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah’s future remains uncertain.

With the Egypt international’s current contract set to expire at the end of next season, he remains keen to sign a new deal to extend his stay at Anfield. But still, negotiations with the Reds are at a standstill.

Should the club’s top scorer eventually leave, then he’ll take some replacing.

And the continued speculation over his future comes as the club are also trying to delay his departure for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations to ensure he is available for their crunch match with Chelsea on January 2.

Liverpool fears over Salah departure

The Reds have been left sweating over the departure of Mohamed Salah for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Liverpool would like to delay Salah linking up with the rest of the Egypt international team until after their match against Chelsea on January 2.

But Fifa regulations mean players taking part in the tournament should be made available 14 days before the first game.

That means Salah’s last game could be against Leeds United on Boxing Day, but the bosses at the Egyptian Football Association are yet to give any indication as to whether Salah will be allowed to play against Chelsea.

Salah replacement ‘identified’

With Salah’s contract up in a little over 18 months’ time, the club may well be considering who could possibly replace the forward should an agreement for a new deal fail to be achieved.

But with sporting director Michael Edwards set to step down from his role with the club at the end of the season, his final Reds masterstroke may indeed be to find Salah’s replacement.
