Liverpool players are slowly trickling back to the club’s Kirkby base as Jurgen Klopp prepares to put them through their paces in pre-season training.
The Reds boss will be hoping there are a few new faces arriving on Merseyside too, as Ibrahima Konate remains the club’s only signing of the summer after arriving from RB Leipzig for £36million.
Donyell Malen appears to be Anfield chiefs’ priority target and the gifted forward was an eye-catching performer for the Netherlands before their Euro 2020 exit.
But Liverpool’s hopes of signing the PSV Eindhoven star have been rocked due to competition from a fellow European giant.
The latest reports suggest Klopp and Co. will also face competition to sign their other targets in midfield and attack.
Here is Sunday’s Liverpool transfer round-up.
Major Malen blow
Donyell Malen has emerged as a key target for Liverpool, but the Reds have been deal a significant blow in their pursuit of the PSV Eindhoven forward.
That’s because Borussia Dortmund are weighing up a swoop for the 22-year-old, with their coffers bolstered by the £73million sale of Jadon Sancho to Manchester United, according to German outlet Bild .
If it comes down to a bidding war, Liverpool may struggle to match Dortmund’s financial power in the wake of Sancho’s lucrative exit.
The report adds the Bundesliga giants have begun working out how they will spend their new-found transfer funds, heralding bad news for Anfield chiefs if they choose to move for Malen.

While Carnevali still hopes to keep hold of the winger, he confirmed multiple foreign clubs have submitted bids for the player.
“I didn’t speak to (Inter) Milan about Berardi… but our intention is to keep him,” said Carnevali, per Football Italia . “I think Berardi’s valuation is more suited to a move abroad and we only received offers from foreign clubs.”
Serious Sanches interest
Liverpool are ‘particularly’ interested in signing Renato Sanches this summer after his brilliant season with Lille and Portugal, according to French outlet Onze Mondial .
Sanches, 23, helped Lille to the Ligue 1 title before impressing on his country’s run to the last 16 of Euro 2020.
The Reds are believed to be searching for midfielders to fill the void left by Georginio Wijnaldum, who left for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer last month.
But the report claims they will face competition from Arsenal if they choose to move for Sanches, who has two years remaining on his contract with Lille.
