The latest Liverpool transfer news as Roberto Firmino is linked with a shock Anfield exit while Jurgen Klopp reportedly closes in on a long-term midfield target
After Chelsea’s spectacular implosion in recent weeks, Jurgen Klopp’s side now look like the only team capable of preventing Manchester City and Pep Guardiola from retaining their Premier League crown.
Although they’ve coped admirably without some of their key men so far this month, it remains to be seen if Klopp will urge the Anfield hierarchy to dip into the transfer market this month to keep their bid for domestic glory on track.
Even if the club’s owners, the Fenway Sports Group, resist the urge to open their chequebook over the next fortnight, the Reds have still been linked with a host of names ahead of the summer window.
Here, Mirror Football rounds up all the latest transfer talk from in and around Anfield…
Reds outline Firmino exit plan
The 30-year-old has notched 94 goals in 310 games since he arrived at Anfield in a £29m deal from German outfit Hoffenheim back in 2015.
Since then, Firmino has struck up an almost telepathic understanding with Mane and Salah – with the trio establishing themselves as one of the most prolific forward lines in Europe.
But Firmino’s powers in front of goal have seemingly waned over the past couple of years.
And the emergence of Diogo Jota, who has netted 12 in 21 games this season, could see Firmino’s fruitful spell on Merseyside come to an abrupt conclusion at the end of the season.

The 24-year-old has been linked with an exit from the reigning French champions on numerous occasions over the past few months, and El Nacional are now reporting that Liverpool have firmed up their long-term interest in the Portugal star.
But other priorities have prevented the Spaniard from getting his wish – clearing the path for Liverpool to swoop in, with talks said to be ‘very advanced’.
Sanches doesn’t seem to be too aggrieved by the Barca deal falling through, with the report claiming that he favours a move to a team that has ‘more sporting stability, and where they can guarantee him titles and a higher salary’.
Liverpool urged to sign Saints star
The Saints captain made headlines at the weekend with a stunning 35-year free-kick in Southampton’s 2-1 loss against Wolves.
And that stunning strike has led Crooks to insist that Liverpool snap up the 27-year-old to bolster their title bid.
“The free-kick scored by Southampton’s James Ward-Prowse against Wolves was outstanding,” Crooks said in his column for the BBC.
“How long are Liverpool going to wait to buy Ward-Prowse?
“They allowed Georginio Wijnaldum to leave on a free transfer and are struggling in that midfield department. Ward-Prowse would fit like a glove.”
