Liverpool did their best transfer business under the radar this summer, with Diogo Jota having been a hit since his £40million move from Wolves.
While Jota’s move to Anfield was a surprise to many, the Reds’ needs are rather more obvious as the January transfer window approaches.
Having lost first-choice centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to long-term knee injuries, manager Jurgen Klopp is widely expected to target a centre-half addition in the new year.
There has also been speculation that Liverpool could target more players from Sunday’s opponents Wolves, as well as a young goalkeeping talent from a La Liga club.
Here are the latest Liverpool transfer rumours.
Defensive teammates on Reds’ radar
Liverpool have two RB Leipzig defenders on their radar as they look to boost their depleted rearguard in January.
The Reds have been linked with Dayot Upamecano for some time, with speculation having ramped up since Van Dijk and Gomez were sidelined.
But Klopp’s side are also interested in his team-mate and fellow centre-back Ibrahima Konate, according to German publication Bild.
At 21, Konate is a year younger than Upamecano, and like his team-mate is contracted to Leipzig until 2023. But the France under-21 international would cost significantly less than Upamecano’s expected €50million (£45m) price tag.
Keeper eyed as Adrian replacement
Liverpool are keen on Sevilla goalkeeper Alfonso Pastor, according to reports from Spain.
AS claims the Reds are weighing up a swoop for the 20-year-old either in January or next summer.
While Alisson is regarded as one of the world’s best keepers, his deputy Adrian has not always convinced.
And 22-year-old Caoimhin Kelleher was given the nod against Ajax on Tuesday with Alisson sidelined by a hamstring injury.
Pastor, who played for Sevilla in their 4-0 defeat to Chelsea on Wednesday, is out of contract next summer.
Reds could target two more Wolves stars
Jota has proved to be one of the signings of the summer following his £40m switch from Wolves.
The forward has scored nine goals in his 15 appearances so far and is giving Liverpool’s established front three serious competition.
Jota formerly worked with Reds coach Pep Ljinders at Porto – which played a part in the 24-year-old’s move this summer.
And according to the Daily Star, Ruben Neves and Fabio Silva could be the next Wolves stars targeted by Liverpool.
Midfielder Neves was another player who worked with Ljinders at Porto, while Reds coach Vitor Matos worked closely with striker Silva at the Portuguese club.
And the coaches’ links with the two players could see Liverpool raid Molineux again when the transfer window opens.
