Liverpool may have only made one signing in the summer as Ibrahima Konate arrived from RB Leipzig, but they could be set for a busy January with certain stars absent
Liverpool are back to their best this season, with West Ham the only side able to get the better of them across all competiitions.
There were a few question marks about Jurgen Klopp’s side this season due to the fact that they only made one signing in the summer, as Ibrahima Konate arrived for £36m from RB Leipzig.
However, their 2-0 win over Porto on Wednesday with a weakened side flexed their squad depth as they kept up their 100% Champions League record.
They may be more active in January though, as they prepare to lose both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to the Africa Cup of Nations for up to six weeks.
With Liverpool mounting a title charge, Mirror Football takes a look at all of the speculation surrounding Anfield ahead of the January transfer window…
Liverpool still interested in Sarr
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Watford’s Ismaila Sarr since the summer of 2020, and the rumours also circled during the recent transfer window, although no move was made.
Despite no approach being made so far, Liverpool remain interested in the 23-year-old, who plays with Mane for Senegal, according to Calciomercato.
Sarr has been excellent since signing for Watford in 2019, and was their top scorer as they secured promotion from the Championship last season.
The winger has bagged four goals already this season, but is under contract at Vicarage Road until 2024.
Klopp urged to sign Haaland
Jurgen Klopp has been urged to sign Erling Haaland by an unlikely figure, as Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has issued a plea to Liverpool in the hopes that they will beat Manchester City ti his signature.
However, Ferdinand was also speaking truthfully about what would be best for Haaland, as he said on BT Sport: “I think he suits other teams better [than Man City]…If I was Liverpool I would take him right now.
“If he goes to Liverpool that’s a devastating front three. I don’t think it’s as hard for him to adapt if he goes to Liverpool. It’s a different system.”
Liverpool are in the hunt for a long-term striker, and Haaland would be the dream solution for any side, and would be devastating at Anfield.
Stefan Bajcetic signs first professional contract
Liverpool have already completed one senior signing, but it’s one for the future as Stefan Bajcetic has signed his first professional contract with the side.
The 17-year-old defender arrived from Celta Vigo for €250,000 (£224,000) in December 2020, but joined up with the Liverpool youth side in February.
Liverpool beat Manchester United to the signing of Bajcetic, but the Reds were successful in obtaining is signature after scouting him since 2019.
Bajcetic was born in Spain but has Serbian heritage, and comes from a footballing family as his father, Srdan, played for Celta Vigo, Red Star Belgrade and the Serbian national team.
