Liverpool vs Brighton: Premier League preview

A run of five games without victory over the turn of the year has seen the champions lose ground on rivals Manchester City, the gap now four points with the Reds having played a game more.

Brighton, meanwhile, recorded their first home win of the season when Tottenham came to town last time out and could sense an opportunity on Wednesday.

Liverpool vs Brighton is scheduled for an 8.15pm GMT kick-off on Wednesday, January 26, 2021.

The match will be held behind closed doors at Anfield.

Joel Matip has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after damaging ankle ligaments in the win over Tottenham, meaning Nat Phillips and Jordan Henderson will continue to deputise at centre-back for Liverpool.

Sadio Mane will be assessed ahead of kick-off, along with James Milner, as Roberto Firmino returns.

Brighton will hope to welcome Joel Veltman and Jason Steele back after minor knocks.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-0 Brighton

Brighton showed good steel to hold off a vague attempted fightback from Tottenham last time out, but Liverpool look back in the grove after a mini-wobble. This should be another win for the champions.
