Logan Paul confident he will avoid punishment for missing weight for Mayweather

Logan Paul is on track to make weight for his fight with Floyd Mayweather – and save himself a six-figure amount in the process.

Prior to the exhibition bout, Paul had revealed on his Instagram page that he would be fined $100,000 for every pound he weighed in over the 190lb limit.

But it appears that he will have no trouble making the weight, which is 30 lbs heavier than his legendary 50-0 opponent’s, telling reporters he was only five pounds over with two days until weigh-ins.

“Weight is great and we’re about at 195,” he said at his open workout yesterday. “Energy is great and I feel strong, fast, sharp. I have no complaints. This is the best shape I’ve ever been in.

“And I need to be because it’s an eight-round fight. It’s the longest fight I’ve ever fought. So I have to be ready.”

Mayweather and Paul will engage in an eight-round exhibition with no judges or official result being announced should the fight go the distance, but knockouts will be permitted at the referee’s discretion.

And talking about fighting a legend like Mayweather, the elder Paul brother said that he is still finding the whole experience ‘surreal’, and that he won’t believe it’s really happening until they are in the ring together.

“This whole thing is surreal,” he added. “Everything about it. I told my manager and we kind of had an inside joke that until I get in the ring with him, I didn’t think this fight was happening.

“But I think it’s safe to say that I can believe it now. I think it’s happening. It’s fight week. I can’t imagine Floyd would back out now, but who knows? Old man fakes an injury. Gets scared of the big kid. I’m excited.

His workout took place at the historic Fifth Street Gym in Miami, where the likes of Muhammed Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard trained when in Florida.

“There are greats who’ve fought in here,” Paul noted. “You have to put respect where respect is due. I just want to come in here and work my ass off. It’s such an honour to be in the presence of such great people in such a historic environment.”

And when asked how he differs from opponents like Ricky Hatton or Conor McGregor, both of whom were stopped by Mayweather despite being much more accomplished world level fighters than Paul, he explained that his size will get him the upset result.

“I’m just not them,” Paul proclaimed. “I’m not going in there at 155 lbs, I’m not going in there with the fight meaning the entire world to me – I have nothing to lose.

“This whole thing is going to be fun for me, I’m going to play with Floyd; dog him and hit him hard. I’m going to break him down physically, mentally, everything.

“I don’t like comparing myself to other guys. As great as they might be, I’m not them.”
