Lorient star has ‘burning liquid thrown in his face’ by intruder at his home

FC Lorient striker Yoane Wissa has been taken to hospital after being the victim of an unprovoked attack in his own home.

A woman gained access to the house of the Congolese international on Thursday evening and threw liquid in the face of the 24-year-old.

It’s alleged the perpetrator of this incident turned up at the house of Wissa earlier that afternoon to request an autograph for her son and then returned at around midnight, according to French publication L’Equipe.

After entering the property due to the front door being unlocked, she threw liquid in the face of Wissa and caused burns to his eyes.

The 24-year-old was taken to hospital after the attack

The striker was later admitted to hospital and is believed to be in a stable condition.

Lorient have since condemned the actions of the woman allegedly responsible and expressed their “shock” regarding the news.

A club statement read: “FC Lorient learned this morning that Yoane Wissa had been the victim of an assault at home during the night before being hospitalised urgently.

“Yoane is due for surgery today.”

It added: “The club, in shock, want to show their support for Yoane and his family and wish their player a speedy recovery.

“FC Lorient is counting on justice to convict the author of this attack.”

Wissa signed for Lorient in 2018 from Angers and helped his side remain in Ligue 1 last campaign.

The 2020/21 season marked Lorient’s return to the top-flight after a three-year absence.

It was a campaign to remember for Wissa on a personal level, having scored ten league goals as well as providing four assists.
