Luke Shaw explains theory behind his improved form at Man Utd

Luke Shaw has pinned his noticeably improved form at Manchester United on his growing maturity both on and off the pitch.

The defender is enjoying what is arguably his best season for United since he moved to Old Trafford from Southampton in a £30million deal in 2014.

The fee was a world record one for a teenager and Shaw arrived at United with a huge weight of expectation, only for his progress to be hampered by a multitude of muscle injuries.

But Shaw has only missed a handful of games this season and has enjoyed an extended run as the Red Devils’ first-choice left-back.

Shaw has established himself as first-choice left-back ahead of Alex Telles

The 25-year-old believes he has put his fitness issues firmly behind him and says he is benefiting from being one of the more experienced players in the Manchester United dressing room.

Asked if he is enjoying the best run of his Red Devils career, Shaw told the club’s official website : “Yeah maybe, because I had a lot of ups and downs.

“There were times when I was finally getting into a good stage where I felt good but I feel like I’ve been so unfortunate with the injuries I’ve picked up along the way.

“That’s in the past though and hopefully that’s behind me and I can just get back to playing football and enjoying it and trying to help the team as much as possible.

“I feel like I’ve been here for a long time now so I do feel like one of the older ones,” he added. “Sometimes even the lads ask how old I am because everyone thinks I’m older!

“Of course I’ve still got a long way to go, but I think I’ve matured not just in football, but outside of football as well.

“Hopefully I can continue pushing along because I can definitely still improve and get better.”
