While Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia and Jack Harrison have departed, Manchester City are yet to make a senior signing this summer.
Despite agreeing transfers for youngsters Dario Sarmiento and Kayky, Pep Guardiola has waited patiently to add to his first-team options.
He may not have to wait much longer, however, with Euro 2020 over and done with and the transfer market no longer in stasis.
City continue to be linked to Harry Kane and Jack Grealish, though there could be other deals in the works.
While Guardiola claimed earlier this month that “at the prices [quoted], we are not going to buy any strikers,” City continue to be linked with potential replacements for Aguero.
Here’s Wednesday’s City transfer round-up with all the latest developments.
Torres praises Griezmann
While City have reportedly made it clear that they have no intention of signing Antoine Griezmann, Spanish outlet Marca have still asked Ferran Torres for his thoughts on the matter.
Barcelona are looking to reduce their wage bill so that they can afford to keep Lionel Messi and, as one of their highest earners, Griezmann has been identified as a potential departee.
“He is a great player,” said Torres. “Obviously he is at Barca, let’s see what can happen.
“I don’t know if Guardiola has spoken to him, but City is one of the best teams in the world and wants to have the best players to win everything. If it happens, fine, but if not we need to keep working.”
Joao Felix an alternative
While Griezmann may be a non-starter, City could still look to La Liga for their next signing.
According to Fichajes, Guardiola is interested in Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix.
With Griezmann’s preference to return to Atletico, regardless of City’s stance on a transfer, the Spanish champions may have to look for inventive ways to cover his transfer fee and wages.
That could see Joao Felix depart and, with City interested, the situation could work out well for all involved.
Vieira wants City youngster
Having ended his playing days in Manchester, coached City’s Elite Development Squad and started his senior managerial career at New York City FC – the MLS wing of the City Football Group empire – Patrick Vieira has longstanding contacts at the Etihad.
Having released 22 players last month, Palace are in urgent need of new recruits. Among Vieira’s targets is Claudio Gomes, the Paris Saint-Germain academy graduate who signed for City in 2018.
Gomes, 20, has made three appearances for City to date, though none in the Premier League. He is still highly rated at the Etihad, but Vieira may be able to get him on loan.
