Guardiola Fumes at Milner’s red card escape

Manchester City will hope their pursuit of Erling Haaland will be boosted if he signs a £50million boot deal.

Puma are set to table a four-year offer in an effort to lure the Borussia Dortmund star away from his current sponsors Nike, reports the Daily Star.

And Pep Guardiola’s men will hope to profit from the change due to City’s close business ties with Puma, who are their kit sponsors.

City are keen to sign the Norwegian talisman who is tipped to leave Dortmund next summer.

Guardiola was interested in the striker in the previous window, but were put off by Dortmund’s £150m price tag as the Bundesliga side wanted to hold onto their prized asset.

But with Haaland set to be available for a reduced fee at the end of the season, City and a host of clubs are set to come calling once again.

Teams can activate a clause in his contract next summer that means he is available for a reported fee between £65million and £90m.

Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are also circling the talisman and will provide stiff competition for City who are still looking for a no.9 to replace Sergio Aguero after missing out on Harry Kane.

But they hope Haaland’s switch to wearing Puma boots could give them the edge.

Haaland still has two years left to run on his boot package with Nike, but Puma hope he could switch brands sooner than that given their staggering offer.

In addition to the long-term kit deal City agreed in 2019 – worth an estimated £650m over ten years – Pep Guardiola, Kyle Walker, Ederson and Oleksandr Zinchenko all have individual contracts with the German company.

But whether Haaland linking up with Puma would be enough to convince him to join City next summer – rather than any of his other suitors – remains to be seen.

The latest reports claim that Haaland’s dream scenario is to join Real Madrid as he loosk to leave Dortmund as soon as possible, but the Germans want to hold onto him for one more season.

Dortmund realise his release clause is significantly lower than his value and it’s claimed they have offered Haaland fresh terms, which is double his salary, in an attempt to keep him for longer.

But the player’s agent Mino Raiola has knocked back their offer as he made it clear that his client is looking to leave the club the first chance he gets, according to AS.
