Manchester City star Ruben Dias has admitted that his “dream weekend” used to be watching Manchester United defenders Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.
Dias has been one of the best players in the Premier League this season following his £65m arrival from Benfica last summer.
The Portuguese centre-back has been an almost ever-present during City’s 21-match winning run recently, and missed just one league game in total this term.
But it appears that the 23-year-old may have learned some of his skills from legends of rivals United.
While talking to Red Devils hero Ferdinand on BT Sport, Dias revealed that he used to love watching him and Vidic play together, while also admitting he was also an admirer of former City man Kompany and Chelsea legend John Terry.
Dias said: “When I was a kid watching the Premier League was my dream weekend, I’ve watched many games with you, Vidic, Kompany, John Terry, an infinite list.
“From there you start learning and I learnt a lot from what I hear and what I see and just by watching I started to understand the league and the way you play.
“The thing that makes the big difference is how competitive it is. Here you get the challenge every game and I think that’s what makes the league different and if you’re successful it’s because you can solve it many times.”
Dias’ impact on the City team has been undeniable this season, prompting comparisons with four-time Premier League winning skipper Kompany.

And the youngster showed why he may actually have the right mindset to fill those shoes.
“I felt zero pressure – no one could put more pressure apart from the pressure I put on myself,” Dias added.
“People are comparing me to Vincent and I understand why people do it but honestly for me you cannot replace Kompany because of all that he’s done. I have a lot ambition, I want to win.”
