Guardiola tells Grealish to emulate Sterling with goal return

Manchester City are looking to lift the mood at the Etihad even more in the final week of the transfer window.

With seven days to go until Deadline Day on Tuesday, August 31, the Citizens are hoping they can pull off the summer’s most talked-about move.

But Pep Guardiola may also have to part way with two players who have been solid servants to City during his era and helped lift all three of his Premier League titles.

It comes after his side recovered from their opening day disaster to earn their first top-flight points of the season on Saturday at home to Norwich as Jack Grealish scored his first goal for the club.

Here, Mirror Football rounds up the latest transfer news from the Etihad.

City prepare Kane push

The Telegraph report that the Citizens will make another push to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur this week.

Kane came off the bench to play almost 20 minutes in his team’s 1-0 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

Manager Nuno Espirito Santo was coy on whether he would selected the 28-year-old for their Europa Conference League play-off second leg clash with Paços de Ferreira, despite losing last week in Portugal.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy wants £160million to sell his star striker but a player-plus-cash deal has been mooted – potentially with either subject of our next two stories.

Guardiola has previously claimed his club could not afford to sign the reigning Golden Boot winner for that price.

Real Madrid eye Laporte

City defender Aymeric Laporte is reportedly on Real Madrid’s radar.

According to Spanish outlet reportMundo Deportivo, Carlo Ancelotti are eyeing the recently-converted Spain international as he seeks a move away from Manchester.

Laporte was part of the Spanish national side that made the semi-finals at Euro 2020 and now wants to ply his club trade in the capital.

Despite scoring in the Citizens’ 5-0 victory over Norwich on Saturday, the 27-year-old is Guardiola’s third-choice centre-back at the Etihad behind Ruben Dias and John Stones.

It is believed that Madrid would have to fork out around £60million for his signature as the Spanish heavyweights look to replace Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.

Bernardo loan-to-buy

A departure for Bernardo Silva before Deadline Day remains on the cards.

City will only sell the Portugal international for a suitable fee and two European giants may have a solution to take the fellow 27-year-old abroad.

The Star claim that AC Milan want to take Bernardo on a two year loan deal worth £15million, with the aim of signing him permanently for £30m.

Barcelona remain interested, having reportedly sounded out the midfielder earlier in the transfer window.
