Pep Guardiola on Man City’s win over Man Utd

With Harry Kane fulfilling his media duties as England captain over the international break and bagging a hat-trick against Albania on Friday, talk about his failed move to Manchester City over the summer was going to resurface.

Pep Guardiola is blessed with arguably the most talented group of players in European football and they showcased what they are capable of before the international break with their dominant 2-0 win over Manchester United.

However, with Gabriel Jesus the only recognised centre-forward among the first-team squad, speculation about City and a striker is likely to never be too far away. With the January window growing larger on the horizon, get ready for those rumours to intensify.

Mirror Sport has the latest City transfer stories.

According to ESPN, City will make another attempt to sign Kane in the January window.

After failing to land the Tottenham Hotspur star in the summer, he has struggled for goal in the Premier League this season, notching just one goal in the top flight.

However, it’s reported that his inconsistent form will not prevent City from trying again for the England captain, with new Spurs boss Antonio Conte said to be facing a “major battle” to keep Kane in north London.

“Sources told ESPN that prior to taking charge, Conte was given assurances he could expect to include Kane in his plans moving forward,” the report continues.

“But one source suggests a huge offer could yet force Levy into a rethink given how hard the club has been hit financially by the pandemic but Spurs have privately been resolute in their determination to keep Kane at least until the end of the season.”

Barcelona unlikely to land Sterling

According to the MailOnline, Barcelona will struggle to finance a deal for Raheem Sterling despite interest in the forward.

In the piece it’s said new boss Xavi is a big admirer of the winger, who has fallen down the pecking order for City over the last 12 months. Sterling recently said he would be open to a switch elsewhere if it meant he was able to get more game time.

Barcelona have been consistently linked with the forward in recent weeks, although given the club’s perilous financial situation it’s said they would not be able to match his current £300,000-a-week salary.

“Guardiola has accepted that they would need to look at Sterling’s situation if does not wish to extend and his representatives brought a sizeable offer to the club’s board,” the piece continued.

Nkunku enquiry made

According to SportBild (h/t SportWitness ), City have made an enquiry to RB Leipzig over versatile forward Christopher Nkunku.

Nkunku scored a hat-trick against City in the Champions League this season, although his team were beaten 6-3 on the night. The 23-year-old has been performing well in the Bundesliga too, notching five goals and three assists in 11 outings.

In the report it’s said there is no release clause in the Frenchman’s contract, something that could potentially complicate any approach.

Interest in Nkunku is said to have been “piling up” as of late, with his polished performances in a number of different roles clearly putting some of Europe’s biggest clubs on alert.
