Man United crash out of Champions League with 3-2 Leipzig loss

United headed to Germany needing just a draw to seal progress to the knockout stages of the competition, but a defeat – which came despite a grandstand finish at Red Bull Arena – means they will now be playing Europa League football in 2021.

The visitors made the worst possible start to a crunch clash, with Leipzig’s Manchester City loanee Angelino afforded oceans of space behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka to collect Marcel Sabitzer’s diagonal pass and rifle a powerful effort past the returning David De Gea.

A bad start turned to downright disaster inside 15 minutes, with Amadou Haidara arriving unmarked to sweep the influential Angelino’s cross into the back of the net.
