Man Utd close to Varane agreement as they monitor Saul Niguez situation

Manchester United are operating the busiest of all the sides in the Premier League’s ‘big six’ as they aim to close the gap between them and ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City.

The Red Devils finished second, one place behind local rivals City as Pep Guardiola’s side cruised to their third league title in four seasons, with United trailing 12 points adrift.

However, United have upped the ante this summer, showing they mean business ahead of the new season by getting a number of key deals over the line with plenty more expected before the transfer window shuts.

After more than an entire calendar year of speculation, Jadon Sancho is finally a Man Utd player in a deal that Borussia Dortmund receive £73m in exchange for the wide player, who was recently dubbed ‘the best winger in the world’ by ex City and Liverpool star Dietmar Hamman.

Sancho is not expected to be the last player to arrive at Old Trafford this window, with that being said, here is Mirror Sport’s Man Utd transfer round-up for July 26.

Raphael Varane deal set to be done by the end of the week

United could soon be successful with their third attempt to sign Varane this summer

Manchester United are reported to be confident they will wrap up a deal for Real Madrid stalwart Raphael Varane by the end of this week.

The central defender returned to Los Blancos pre-season training earlier this month, but with 12 months left to run on his current deal, a potential exit appears to be edging ever closer.

Varane is thought to have told the Real Madrid hierarchy he has no intention of signing an extension, instead favouring a move to the Premier League, with United his ideal destination.

French outlet Le Parisian claim that United could snap up the centre-back for just £39m, a bargain for a defender that has amassed a decade’s worth of Champions League experience while also winning the World Cup with France in 2018.

Talks have reportedly progressed ‘rapidly’ between United and Real Madrid, to the extent that Varane could be a United player by next weekend.

United confident they can beat Liverpool to Saul signing

Those at the top of the United hierarchy are reportedly confident that £45m should be enough to secure the signature of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.

The star has recently attracted interest from a number of clubs, including Barcelona and United’s fierce rivals Liverpool, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is thought to be of the belief United can get their man.

Saul is viewed as a potential replacement for Paul Pogba according to The Express, who is rumoured to be on the cusp of a move to French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

While Liverpool are likely to only buy Saul if they sell a midfielder of their own, United are willing to stump up the required funds without axing any of their current crop.

Saul has been on the verge of becoming a United player previously, before then-manager Louis van Gaal opted against a deal for the Spaniard, who instead signed a nine-year contract with Atleti, which still has five years left to run.

Anthony Martial up for sale this summer

After six years at the club, Anthony Martial’s time in Manchester could be nearing its end after he has been deemed surplus to requirements by United, as reported by the Daily Star.

Following the arrival of Jadon Sancho, Martial is likely to fall further down the attacking pecking order having already struggled to become a regular under Solskjaer.

United have slapped a £50m price tag on the forward, with a number of sides interested, including a whole host of Premier League outfits such as Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Aston Villa and West Ham United.

Should United receive what they are after from Martial, it means they will make an £8m loss on what they paid AS Monaco for him back in 2015.
