Manchester United are reportedly refusing to enter talks with Paris Saint-Germain regarding a transfer for Paul Pogba, despite the Frenchman wanting a move to the Paris club.

The 28-year-old has only a year left to run on his current deal with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirming in July that talks are ongoing over a new contract.

PSG’s interest in the France international has threatened to derail their plans, with widespread reports in France suggesting a £50m offer was in the offing.

According to Le Parisien, via Get French Football News, there is a mutual desire between Pogba and PSG to complete a transfer this summer.

Still, United are refusing to entertain the prospect of their maverick midfielder leaving Old Trafford this summer.

Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, has pushed Pogba to force a move away from United after various public spats with the United board dating back to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s time with the Red Devils.

It is understood that Raiola is confident a deal could be concluded quickly with United’s blessing due to the super agent’s positive relationship with PSG sporting director Leonardo.

Nevertheless, PSG are yet to make a formal offer for Pogba and United would be delighted to see the Frenchman remain at the club heading into the new domestic season.

There is renewed hope that PSG will eventually cool their interest as they edge closer to the signing of Lionel Messi on a bumper three-year deal.

It is expected that once Messi is unveiled at the Parc des Princes, PSG will take their foot off the gas in the transfer market as the Argentine’s massive contract could force them to keep an eye on their financial dealings.

Messi’s contract at PSG is believed to be worth an estimated £25m-a-year, placing him amongst the club’s biggest earners.

The Ligue 1 giants have already completed the signings of Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Georginio Wijnaldum on free transfers, whilst rapid wing-back Achraf Hakimi signed from Inter Milan in a deal worth £55m.

This news will delight United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who raved about his midfielder’s impact since returning to training following an excellent display at Euro 2020.

“I hope every player thinks this is the place to be to win trophies,” said the Red Devils boss. “When you sign for Manchester United, you have to rise to the challenge.

“Paul has come back, and he’s fresh, and he’s always such a positive boy. The talks I’ve had with him have all been positive.”

United will have to conclude their discussions with Pogba soon as his current deal will expire at the end of next season.

Pogba had a mixed season in the Premier League, registering only three goals and as many assists in the 2020/21 season.

If United are to achieve their ambitions to challenge neighbours Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title, Pogba will have to rediscover his excellent 2019/20 form, where he scored an astonishing 13 goals from midfield.
