Man Utd fear Paul Pogba is ready to run down contract and leave on a free

Manchester United fear that Paul Pogba will run down his contract and walk out of Old Trafford for nothing next year.

United are desperate to convince the £89million Frenchman to sign a new deal ahead of the new season after being forced to trigger a 12-month extension in his current agreement.

But their attempts to persuade Pogba and his agent to sign away the peak years of his career have become deadlocked.

The prospect of the 28-year-old leaving Old Trafford for a second time, after honouring his contract, has turned into a nightmare scenario.

And it will have implications for United’s other transfer business.

Manchester United fear that Paul Pogba will run down his contract

Mirror Sport revealed this month that United have been quoted £81.5million by Borussia Dortmund for England winger Jadon Sancho.

And his arrival is now looking even more likely after they agreed to hand the Bundesliga club most of his fee up-front.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has handled Pogba with care and refused to involve himself in any exchange of views with super-agent Mino Raiola.

But United have made it very clear they would look to sell Pogba now rather than allow him to leave as a free agent next summer.

United once slapped a £150million valuation on the midfielder to repel moves by Real Madrid. They would be lucky to raise even a third of that in the market this summer.

Pogba has agreed to take part in an Amazon documentary about his life next season – and the drama of his negotiations with United is now set to take centre stage.
