Manchester United are hopeful that Alex Telles will be able to feature in their upcoming Premier League game against West Bromwich Albion.
The 27-year-old has missed a number of games after contracting coronavirus and reports from his native Brazil have claimed he has tested positive for a second time.
A statement from the Brazilian Football Federation on Sunday stated: “Arana was called on to form the Brazilian squad after left-back Alex Telles tested positive for Covid-19.
“The player had contracted the virus while still in his club, Manchester United, and is no longer in a transmissive stage.
“A new examination will be carried out with the entire delegation on Sunday (November 15). If the test result is again positive, Alex Telles will be recalled [to Manchester United].”
However, United have released a statement of their own, saying that Telles’ second positive test “does not necessarily mean he has contracted the virus again” and that he could still feature against West Brom.
United said: “The club is checking on the situation regarding Alex Telles and will assess the defender upon his return to Manchester from international duty later this week.
“Reports in Brazil have suggested Telles has tested positive for COVID-19 for a second time and could therefore miss his nation’s match against Uruguay in Montevideo on Tuesday night.
“However, it is understood Alex’s positive test does not necessarily mean he has contracted the virus again.
“United’s medical staff at the Aon Training Complex are monitoring the situation in Brazil and will make an assessment when Telles returns to England later this week.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have missed out on Jadon Sancho in the summer, but he still made some big moves in the transfer market with Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani all arriving.
But their start to the season has been a mixed bag, with a home defeat to Crystal Palace and a 6-1 thrashing by Spurs at one end of the scale, and a tremendous 2-1 win over PSG in Paris at the other.
The question now is whether they can find the right balance?

“It is still hoped our recent signing from FC Porto will be available to play in Saturday’s Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford.”
Fellow left-back Luke Shaw will miss the game against Slaven Bilic’s side, having picked up a hamstring injury in the 3-1 win over Everton, and having Telles available would be a major boost for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
