Former Manchester United forwards Louis Saha and Dimitar Berbatov are of the same mind when it comes to the club’s problem over Paul Pogba.
Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola dropped the bombshell that his client’s time at the club was “over” prior to Tuesday’s must-not-lose Champions League group stage clash at RB Leipzig, in which they were ultimately beaten 3-2.
Raiola’s comments were met with fury at Old Trafford, and two of the club’s former No.9s can’t believe the situation has been allowed to play out the way it has.
“I’m baffled with the situation with Paul Pogba,” Saha told Genting Bet. “I really love Pogba, he’s someone I consider highly, but this communication is a joke.
“I was shocked and I can’t believe something like this happened because this game was so important for United.
“I’m not speaking as a fan, I’m speaking about Manchester United in general, you think that it’s a big game, going into the last 16. You need that focus, but the focus was on one player.
“This is unbelievable, the headlines were about Pogba because of the agent – it wasn’t even Pogba who said anything.”
Fellow former United forward Berbatov is of a similar mind.
“Mino Raiola’s comments about Paul Pogba being unhappy were very poorly timed, right before a massive match in the Champions League,” Berbatov told Betfair.
“That isn’t ideal and I’m sure it would have been felt in the dressing room before the game.
“I don’t think Pogba would have known what Raiola was about to say, which is embarrassing for the player. At the end of the day the agent is working for the player, so the agent should do what the player tells him, it doesn’t matter who you are – you work for the player.
“It was the wrong way to do things, it created a big fuss which was totally unnecessary before a match.”
