United handed Pogba contract boost
One of the priorities for Rangnick when he is finally confirmed is sorting out the future of Paul Pogba.
The French international is out of contract at the end of the season and has so far been unwilling to sign a new deal.
But United have now received a boost in their attempts to come to an agreement with the midfielder after Real Madrid reportedly called off their attempts to sign him.
According to Marca, Los Blancos are ‘not willing’ to sign Pogba as they believe he would not fit into their squad.
Madrid was though to be Pogba’s preferred destination, but the La Liga giants are instead focusing their attention of tying down Luka Modric to a new contract.
Pogba will now be forced to reassess his options and with his favoured club now off the table, the possibility of an extended stay at United has grown.
Spurs lead United in Majer race
Manchester United have reportedly fallen behind Tottenham in the race to sign Rennes star Lovro Majer.
The Croatian midfielder has impressed since returning from a hip injury which ruled him out for the first few weeks of the season, scoring six goals and notching six assists.
He is unlikely to depart Brittany in the January window, but a number of clubs are understood to be eyeing a move next summer.
According to Homme du Match, Spurs, Bayern Munich and United are all interested in signing the 23-year-old.
He only arrived at Roazhon Park last summer, but it is stated that the level of interest in him means that Rennes will find it ‘difficult’ to keep the midfielder.
It is stated that Spurs are currently the ‘most interested’ club, with Antonio Conte’s men having placed Majer at the top of their summer shopping list.
Ronaldo tipped for exit
United are 12 points adrift of leaders Chelsea and Merson believes the Portuguese superstar will leave Old Trafford if they fail to finish in the top four.
“Manchester United needing an interim manager is a shambles – and Cristiano Ronaldo might decide to walk away in the summer,” Merson wrote in a column for the Daily Star.
“He won’t be hanging around if they don’t finish in the top four because he will want to end his career in the Champions League.
“And that doesn’t look terribly likely right now because United are a mess and will probably get thrashed by Chelsea this weekend.
“It might actually suit all parties if he leaves anyway because if they appoint Mauricio Pochettino and he wants to press from the front, you’re not doing that with Ronaldo.”
