Man Utd ‘to complete transfer’ to unsettle Villarreal before Europa League final

Manchester United are stepping up their pursuit of Villareal centre-back Pau Torres before the Europa League final next weekend, with the Red Devils eager to complete a £42million deal for the defender.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems hellbent on signing a new centre-back once the summer transfer window opens.

The Red Devils have been looking at Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane, but it seems a move for Torres is more likely, with Varane still undecided on signing a new contract at the Bernabeu.

Reports from Spain suggest United want to get a deal over the line for Torres and that could unsettle their upcoming opponents ahead of the Europa League final.

United officials have apparently made formal enquiries to the centre-back’s agent.

They are said to have made it ‘very clear’ to Torres that they want to sign him this summer.

The player has a release clause of £55m in his current contract, but it seems Villareal will accept a slightly lower fee.

However, Barcelona and Real Madrid are also said to be interested in trying to sign him.

The Catalans are £1bn in debt, so it seems unlikely they’ll be able to rival United when it comes to forking out for his transfer fee.

United are, perhaps, better positioned due to their desire to bring in a partner for Harry Maguire at any cost.

United reportedly want the deal to be wrapped up soon in order to unsettle Villareal before next week’s final.

Solskjaer will take his side to Gdansk to face Villareal in the final next Wednesday.

Should United miss out on Torres, they could turn to Jules Kounde, who has been tipped to leave Sevilla this summer.
