Man Utd told their attack is only fourth-best in Premier League even with Sancho

Manchester United have been told their attack is only fourth-best in Premier League.

That is even after they completed their long-awaited £73million signing of winger Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

The 21-year-old will join the likes of Edinson Cavani, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial at Old Trafford as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to mount a title charge next season.

Only champions Manchester City scored more goals than United in the 2020-21 campaign but that hasn’t stopped the Red Devils’ forward line facing criticism, especially after a lacklustre end to the season which was sealed by losing the Europa League final.

United signed England international Sancho from Dortmund for £73 million

TalkSPORT’s Jamie O’Hara is the latest to critique Solskjaer’s attack.

The ex-Tottenham Hotspur midfielder was asked to rank the best front set-ups in the Premier League.

He told the radio station : ” Liverpool have the best front-three in the Premier League – Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

“That’s better than Man United’s, for me,” explained the player-turned-pundit before outlining his methodology.

“Not based on last season, just based on talent and what they can produce when they’re at their best.”

O’Hara then praised United’s cross-city rivals, saying: “I’d also argue Man City; if they line up with Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Kevin De Bruyne as a false nine.

“That’s probably better than Manchester United ’s, too.”

However, he did pick out where the Citizens need to improve and cited Cavani as stronger than Pep Guardiola’s only recognised senior striker after the departure of Sergio Aguero.

“City do need to sign a new striker, but KDB is brilliant when he plays there,” O’Hara said.

“If it’s a choice between Gabriel Jesus and Cavani, you’d have to say Cavani, but if you’re talking Foden or Rashford, you’d say Foden.”

So who follows the two most recent title winners?

O’Hara’s old club in his opinion.

“In my opinion, I think Spurs’ front-three at their best is still better than that Manchester United front-three,” he stated.

A stunned Andy Goldstein, host of the show, then asked: “So what, Son, Kane and Moura is better than Rashford, Cavani and Sancho?”

The 34-year-old replied: “Yeah, Son is better than Rashford, Kane is better than Cavani, and OK Moura is not better than Sancho…

“But Moura had a great finish to last season and does produce at the top level.”

The Red Devils begin their Premier League campaign against Leeds United at Old Trafford on Saturday, August 14.

Solskjaer’s side – currently missing most of their big-name stars – have played two pre-season friendlies so far against Championship opposition.

A 2-1 victory at Derby County was followed by a shock 4-2 defeat at the hands of Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

Next up is newly-promoted Brentford this coming Wednesday, a match which supporters will be able to attend at Old Trafford.
