Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking to get any prospective business done early when the transfer window reopens to avoid another scenario like he endured in the summer.
United left it late to seal the signings of four players on deadline day in what was all a bit of a mad rush.
Three months on and Solskjaer’s side have been far from convincing so far this season, which could push the United boss into the market for further additions.
Not only that, but there is still plenty of deadwood to be cleared out from Old Trafford, with several stars potentially facing the axe next month.
Here are the latest transfer rumours involving the Red Devils.
United prioritising Rice
West Ham and England midfielder is reportedly top of a shortlist of players United are keen to sign in the near future.
The MEN report Solskjaer has identified four positions which need strengthening, with extra protection in midfield of particular priority.
Rice is Solskjaer’s preferred target, but Chelsea have also been tracking the 21-year-old for some time.
And it seems United bosses would prefer to wait until the summer before launching a bid, though interest from elsewhere may well force their hand earlier than planned.
Williams decision pending
United are not rushing into a decision on whether to loan Brandon Williams out for the second half of the season.
The versatile defender has not featured as much as he would have liked this campaign, and could be sent elsewhere for regular first-team experience.
Asked on a possible move for the youngster, Solskjaer said: “That’s something we’ll look at in January but we highly rate Brandon so whoever’s interested, they’re not wrong.”
Bajcetic talks ‘ongoing’
Celta Vigo defender Stefan Bajcetic could be the next youngster to join United’s academy ranks amid reports he is set to leave his current club soon.
The 16-year-old is reportedly locked in negotiations over a switch to United, having impressed in Celta’s youth system last season.
According to La Voz de Galicia, the only remaining obstacle to the transfer being completed is an agreement between both sides over a suitable compensation package.
