Manchester United wonderkids Amad Diallo and Shola Shoretire have been included in the 22-man travelling squad for Thursday’s Europa League match against Real Sociedad.
The Red Devils are heading to Turin rather than San Sebastian for the last-32 first leg, with Juventus ‘ Allianz Stadium hosting the match due to the impact of Covid-19 travel restrictions.
Ahead of the clash, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that Paul Pogba, Donny van De Beek and Edinson Cavani are out of the clash, while Diallo and Shoretire could be in line for their senior debuts.
Indeed, the duo could be called upon by Solskjaer, with the absence of the experienced trio leaving the Red Devils’ manager short in attacking options.
Pogba will not be stepping out on his old stomping ground due to a thigh issue, while summer signings Van De Beek and Cavani will not be available due to muscle injuries of their own.
“He’s recovering well, he’s starting the treatment,” United boss Solskjaer said of Pogba.
“It’ll still be a good few weeks, so he won’t be playing in February, that’s for sure. Still a few weeks until we see Paul, definitely.”
Anthony Martial and Scott McTominay are also doubts, with the boss adding: “Apart from that, we have a couple of doubts or doubtful ones if they’ll be fit enough in Anthony (Martial) and Scott (McTominay) so we’ll have to check them.
“And Donny and Edinson definitely not travelling. They are injured, unfortunately. Muscle injuries.”
Martial and McTominay have, however, have been named as part of the travelling squad for the clash.
Solskjaer is taking a 22-man squad to Italy for the first leg against Sociedad, with 18-year-old Diallo included in the squad.
The teenager, signed from Atalanta in January, is joined in the squad by 17-year-old Shoretire. Neither player have yet to make their senior United debut.
Asked on Wednesday about his expectations for Diallo, Solskjaer said: “We give them a chance to come to United and have a successful career.
“That is something we take serious and are good at – we like to give players a chance. Our fans, our history has always been about skilful attacking players.”
