Cristiano Ronaldo is very much in the news this week amid growing speculation he could leave Juventus.

Manchester City appear to be the favourites for the Portugal international’s signature at this point, but there are a number of clubs, including Manchester United, who are monitoring the situation.

Ronaldo looked set to remain a Juventus player earlier in the summer but kick-started the rumour mill when requesting to be left out of his side’s starting XI for their Serie A opener against Udinese.

Pavel Nedved did his best to play down speculation, with the Juve vice-chairman telling DAZN: “Do not look for sensational things when there aren’t any.

“It was a joint decision with the coach because we’re at the start of the season and it is normal that he’s not fully fit.”

But Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendez has reportedly jetted into Turin to thrash out a transfer for his client, according to both Italian publications Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere dello Sport.

Man City are the current favourites for Ronaldo’s signature, with Sky Sport Italia reporting the 36-year-old has already informed his Juve teammates he will sign for the Citizens.

Pep Guardiola’s side stepped up their interest in Ronaldo after missing out on top target Harry Kane.

The England captain was expected to complete a £150million transfer to Manchester City from Tottenham this summer but the Citizens’ offer came up short.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy refused to budge on his price, and eventually, Kane was forced to accept the deal will not be taking place.

Kane said on social media: “It was incredible to see the reception from the Spurs fans on Sunday and to read some of the messages of support I’ve had in the last few weeks.

“I will be staying at Tottenham this summer and will be 100 per cent focused on helping the team achieve success.”

Manchester United are also interested in re-signing Ronaldo, but are behind City in the transfer race.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan of his former teammate and said of him back in March: “You’d take him in your team, for sure.

“I played with Cristiano and he’s been the best player in the world alongside [Lionel] Messi for the past 10 to 15 years now.”

Prior to Man United snapping up Jadon Sancho, the Red Devils reportedly put a contract offer on the table for Ronaldo.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the contract was for two years and would have seen the Portugual international earn £330,000 per week in wages.

In the end, United turned their attention to Sancho, snapping up the youngster for a cool £73million from Borussia Dortmund instead.
