Marcus Rashford sums up what Sir Alex Ferguson means to Man Utd fans after chat

Marcus Rashford has been left in “awe’ of Sir Alex Ferguson following a recent conversation with the former Manchester United manager.

Rashford was just a young boy in United’s academy during the latter stages of Ferguson’s legendary reign at Ole Trafford, which came to an end following the culmination of the 2012-13 season.

Although he was never directly managed by Ferguson, Rashford – like many others – held himself to the high standard set by the Scot.

The United hitman recently had the chance to pick Fergie’s brain, an opportunity that left the 23-year-old over the moon.

“I had the best conversation with Sir Alex today,” Rashford tweeted on Sunday evening. “I’m in awe of this man.”

Like all those associated with United, Ferguson’s words had a profound effect on Rashford.

He added: “As a United fan, his words mean everything.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may have missed out on Jadon Sancho in the summer, but he still made some big moves in the transfer market with Donny van de Beek, Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani all arriving.

But their start to the season has been a mixed bag, with a home defeat to Crystal Palace and a 6-1 thrashing by Spurs at one end of the scale, and a tremendous 2-1 win over PSG in Paris at the other.

The question now is whether they can find the right balance?

Ferguson has been keeping tabs on Rashford ever since the striker made his debut against FC Midtjylland in February 2016.

“Rashford is an example of what I think is Manchester United,” Ferguson said of the England international. “They are the one club in England who will always identify a Rashford and give a young kid a chance – there is no better club in England at giving young kids a chance.

“Rashford is a sensation and one of the best in years.”

Fergie recently heaped praise on Rashford and his fellow youngster Mason Greenwood, telling talkSPORT: “They’re all doing well.

“It’s a good set up at United. For any young kid going there, it’s a great club to go to.

“And I think England are producing great young players who are representing their country and that can only be a good thing.

“Hopefully Scotland can follow that!”

Rashford and his Manchester United team-mates will be back in action on Tuesday night, welcoming Turkish champions Istanbul Basaksehir to Old Trafford for their fourth Champions League Group H match.
