Barcelona striker Martin Braithwaite wants to fight for his place at the Nou Camp – despite Premier League interest in a January transfer.
Denmark international Braithwaite, 29, was involved in a shock transfer in February when Barcelona were given special dispensation to make an emergency signing because of injuries.
Barcelona are facing their own financial problems and are ready to offload players in January and Premier League clubs including West Ham, Leeds and West Brom have all been sounded out by agents.
There would be top flight interest especially as Braithwaite could be available in a cut price move and, despite struggling for opportunities at Barcelona, could get goals.
Braithwaite said: “Many things are happening but I only focus on those I can control. I play football and can’t do anything about other things. When I wake up in the morning I only think about playing football.
“I am where I always dreamed of and you can only improve if you are here. I’m happy because I’m in a fantastic moment in my life and I feel that everything goes well. I am calm and happy with this challenge.”
Ronald Koeman has reportedly identified several other names who could be offloaded to raise cash.
Who should Barcelona look to sign in January? Have your say below.
Samuel Umtiti, Junior Firpo and Matheus Fernandes are all potential candidates to be moved on, with Koeman hoping to use the funds to add Man City’s Eric Garcia and Lyon’s Memphis Depay to his squad.
Barcelona paid £16.5m to land ex-Middlesbrough striker Braithwaite, but they will struggle to get close to that asking price.
Umtiti and Firpo would no doubt invite bigger offers, depending if Barca can drum up any interest.
