Mason Greenwood’s spell as a Getafe player could get underway this weekend after joining from Manchester United on loan.
The 21-year-old’s time at Old Trafford is effectively over after an internal investigation concluded that his career would be better served elsewhere.
Greenwood has been preparing for a comeback since charges of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February.
But the LaLiga side face Osasuna on Sunday, September 17, with kick-off at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez due to start 1:30pm UK time.
And Greenwood is in line to make his debut having impressed teammates in training.
Speaking to Radio MARCA, Getafe manager Jose Bordalas said: “It was a surprise, we never thought we could get a player like that.
“But they [Man United] got in touch with our sporting director, we talked, we didn’t think it could happen but both sides made an effort [financially].
“He is a fantastic player. You have to be patient, calm, he hasn’t played in a year-and-a-half. We and his colleagues are helping him. He is integrating in a sensational way and I hope he can help us.”
Greenwood’s last game of professional football came in January 2022 before he was suspended by Man United after being arrested.
But after training with his new teammates, the forward has been said to have impressed coaches, who plan to throw him into action as soon as possible.
That means he is likely to play against Osasuna this weekend.
The match, along with all other LaLiga games in the UK, can be accessed through Viaplay.
And Getafe’s game against Osasuna will be on Viaplay 1.
